The Implications of Stereotyping

As a citizen of the United States, we are very fortunate to live in a free and diverse country. As a nation we have fought in world wars and civil wars which undoubtedly helped us establish what we call today, The United States of America. For the last two centuries we have desegregated schools, gave women rights to vote, banned slavery, and what we thought was equality for one and all. And yet, we still see forms of stereotypes and discriminations. All you have to do is listen carefully to the world, and you can begin to witness these crimes being committed. Stereotyping is sneaky, it can be seen in many types of forms, you just have to look closely and analyze it. This can be seen in any type of media, including television, radios, or even magazines. Stereotyping can occur in classrooms, workplace, home, just about anywhere. But what is so bad about stereotyping? Stereotyping someone based on race, religion, age, into a particular class emphasizing difference by over exaggerating there demeaning assumption, while fueling disparities with stereotypes, and which in turn contributes to the cycle of oppression.
Everyone gets stereotyped whether they like it or not. It’s just a matter of how negative it is.
