Women's Obsession with Appearances as Discussed in Dave Berry's Article, The Ugly Truth about Beauty

Men and women have many differences, but one of the main differences,
which is very arguable, are appearances. Many believe women are into
their appearance more than men are; Dave Berry deeply expresses his opinion
about this topic in The Ugly Truth about Beauty. Dave Berry believes that
women are very self conscious about their appearance because as a child they grow up playing Barbie, so as they become an adolescent they feel the need to look like Barbie. Dave Berry also mentions, “men never ask anyone how they look”, meanwhile women are always obsessing over their looks. Another very important point Berry stated was “men don’t even notice the beauty efforts women puts into their self.
When Berry blamed Barbie for the reason why women care so much for their looks, I find his view point on that very untrue. I don’t believe Barbie is the reason why we, as women care about our appearance. They’re a lot of women who do not care about their appearances. There just about the same number of women who care about their appearance to about the same amount of men who also care ,if not more. I do not think a plastic doll can affect the way you look at yourself. I really believe it is more of you pre-teenage years, which really effects how people see yourself.
