The Sword of Henry VIII

Today we will be exhibiting Henry the 8th’s sword. Henry the 8th was a significant figure in the history of the English monarchy. Henry the 8th was born on the 28th June 1491 and died on the 28th January 1547. Henry was crowned the king on the 21st of April 1509 which means that he started his reign at the age of twelve. He was also the lord of Ireland. Henry ruled for 42 years and was a well known king.
Henry had six wives called Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr. Born in Greenwich Palace, Henry VIII was the third child of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. King Henry the 8th also established himself as the supreme head of the church England.
This sword is a long sword and the blade cross section is lenticular. The long sword was used in the late medieval period and early renaissance period. The sword was in service for 205 years from 1350 to 1555. The length of the whole sword itself is 105cm and the length of the blade is 90cm. This sword weighs roughly around 1.2 kg and all parts of the sword are used for offensive purposes, including the pommel and the cross guard.
