The Pros and Cons of Animal Testing

All around the world animals are used to test
on for human benefits. There are many
reasons as to why the experiments take place;
to test new drugs, cosmetics, food additives,
supplements, house hold products, pesticides
and industrial chemicals. A total of 2,714,800
animals were used for scientific
experimentation in the year 2000 in just the
U.K alone, all of which the animals were
murdered! British law requires that any new
drugs must be tested on at least two different species of live mammal. One must be a large non-rodent for example an innocent puppy or kitten. However many life saving drugs have been discovered through animal testing. There are many Pros and Cons for using animals to experiment on, therefore is animal testing right or wrong?

Many people feel animal testing is extremely beneficial and brings a more positive outcome than bad. The main pro is that it aids researchers in finding drugs and treatment to improve health and medicines for humans and animals for example it has helped to develop vaccines against deadly diseases like rabies, polio, measles, mumps, rubella and TB. Many scientists believe without animal testing treatments such as antibiotics, HIV drugs, Insulin and cancer treatment would not be possible as other testing methods are not advanced enough, without these treatments millions of people would die painful deaths.
