Christopher Columbus Was More of a Plunderer Than a Missionary

Was Christopher Columbus a missionary or a plunderer? I believe that Christopher Columbus was a plunderer. In my essay I am going to talk about why I believe that Christopher Columbus was a plunder. I will be talking about Christopher Columbus plans for discovery, letters to the king and queen, conquest to the new world, and his encounters.
Columbus hoped to have his own great discovery. He believed that there was a shorter route to get to Asia. Why? Because he thought that sailing around Africa took too long, therefore he was certain that sailing west would be the best option to get to the riches in Asia. Most of the people in this century would have thought that sailing west would not be possible; also at the time most people thought that the earth was still flat.
Fernando de Talavera was not a friend of Columbus, he heard Columbus claim the right to one-tenth of all the profits of the enterprise. The king and queen of Spain, they were the ones who sponsored his expedition after no one else would. It took Columbus several years to gain the king and queen trust in him. With Spain treasury being empty, Isabella said, “The enterprise is mine, for the Crown of Castile. I pledge my jewels for the funds.”
