The Festival of Diwali: Festival of Lights Celebration in India
In this essay, I am going to describe the most exciting, important, enjoyable days in the lives of people of India. Those days are around the months of October-November every year. Those are the days of festival of Diwali- The festival of Lights. Every festival has religious values. But the festival of Diwali has a special value in people’s Heart. India is a culturally diverse country. So, even one festival is celebrated differently in different parts of our country. I will describe how it is celebrated in my region, in the state of Gujarat. Like every festival, this festival also has a mythological story related to it. Once upon a time, thousands of years back there was a rich and prosperous kingdom in Northern India. The city of Ayodhya was the capital of this kingdom. The main mythological story behind this festival is celebrating the homecoming of Lord Rama, one of the Princes of the Kingdom. Lord Rama was exiled for 14 years from his kingdom and asked to pass his life in forests. So after 14 years when the people of Ayodhya see Lord Rama retuning home, they light up the whole city with lamps. Hence the festival of Diwali is called festival of lights.
