Personal Narrative- Losing my Job Turned Out to be a Positive ExperienceLife can be enjoyed or destroyed by the power of your tongue. There are words of encouragement, “You are doing such a great job,” said my boss. There are words that cut like a knife. “I am sorry, but I have to let you go.” Also, words of heartfelt emotions, “You are such a blessing to this school and you have touched many lives.” Ones life can be changed, just by a few simple words. Recently, I was waiting in a small hallway outside Mr. Humphrey’s office, the principal at Central Elementary School, he is my boss, palms sweating and heart racing from anticipation, waiting to see if I was on the dreadful list. I worked at CES for two years, as a special education paraprofessional. Lately, news had spread like wildfire about the upcoming job cuts. Mr. Humphrey’s was meeting with each parapro individually, to let each one of us know if we had a job in the upcoming school year. Now standing in his cluttered office, not invited to sit down, my heart was beating out of my chest, I heard the words, “I know you do an excellent job here at CES, however, your name is on the list to be laid off due to the lack of funding for our school,” Mr. Humphrey’s said, with such regret in these words.
