Say No to the Development of the Tarkine Loop Road in Tasmania

The Labour Party has decided to create a loop road where the Tarkine is to make more jobs available for the unemployed people in Tasmania and so more tourists come to the North West coast instead of heading straight to the tow main cities of the state. Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has said that he would put $23 million towards the 127 kilometres road that will stretch from Wynyard to Arthur River to Smithton and Stanley. There only needs to be 5.4 kilometres added to connect up the roads that are already there.
There are many reasons that need to be taken into account when politics are discussing an issue like this.
A main issue that will occur is that many kinds of wildlife will have a big disruption in their natural habitat. There are over 60 rare species that are in the Tarkine, including the Tasmanian Devil, Spotted-tailed Quoll and the Eastern Quo. These are not the only animals in the Tarkine area. There are platypus, echidna, wombat, rat, mice, bandicoots, possums, gliders, macropods, and bats. As well as all these animals there are over 130 different species of birds.
