Does the American Legal System Need Reform?

In America, America the beautiful every person has a God given right to a fair trial, Amendment 6 reads:
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

With Justices blindness, the trials are fair and the innocent are set free and the guilty are prosecuted. What happens to the prosecuted? The Judge decides their punishment, if there is not a national standard set punishment, there is a minimum and maximum punishment, the judge gives the criminal what the judge sees fit in the scale and the Criminal does the time.

The U.S has about 300 million people, 5 percent of the world, but for some reason America is in charge of around 25% of the worlds prisoners. (Wamsley P. 2) With statistics like this makes me ask is America so evil that while we have 724 prisoners to every 100,000 America the rest of the world has a median of about 45.(Wamsley P.1) Are we a chaotic and unsafe country, is it the citizens or is it the justice system?
