Stereotypes
What is Stereotype? A fixed, commonly notion or image of a person or group, based on a oversimplification of some observed or imagined trait of behavior or appearance. Our society is based solely on face value where we trend to place someone in a category because of his or her actions. Prejudicial notations used to define members of Christians of Haitian’s church as well as Christians of American church. By stereotyping, we assume that a person or group has certain characteristics. Quite often, we develop these ideas about people who are members of church groups with which we have not had firsthand contact. Stereotyping usually leads us to unfair results, such as discrimination between members, physical appearance, level of education, cultures, nationalities, socioeconomic class, and many more other factors. Stereotyping is a major contributing factor to the judgments each person will make about another person or group of people. In order to make the most accurate judgments in every situation, the presence of stereotypes must be addressed, discussed and dispelled. I commonly held stereotype that I believe accurately reflect the reality of Haitian Churches and White Churches. Haitians and Americans churches worship the same God and their worship services are pretty much the same specially the Seventh Day Adventist.
