Descriptions of the Coming of Spring Illustrated in the Poems "Spring and All" and "For Jane Meyers"

“Spring and All” and “For Jane Meyers” describe the coming of spring in many different ways. In “Spring and All,” the poet

describes the lifeless moments of late winter. The poem slowly introduces color into the description. In “For Jane Myers,” it

explores the adversarial relationship between the ravaging forces of nature and the resources of art as a way to conserve the

human image as a literary figure in the wake of aging and death.

“Spring and All” is written by William Carlos Williams. Spring is a rushing season when everything changes and becomes

something different very quickly. The beginning of the poem would indicate a loyal passerby less concerned with the birth of

nature’s wonders and more concerned of the physical features such as building. Drawing intentions in the “contagious hospital,”

William Carlos Williams displays that the hospital is not contagious because of the disease, but rather it itself is a sickness. Williams

introduces color into the description slowly, still taking the time to signify the change of seasons. The slow drip of color is

similar to the learning process we now as human follow.
