Hmong Community and Gang Violence in Minnesota

Since the Hmong people have arrived here in the U.S. in the 1970’s there was never any drama or violence up until the mid 1980’s when there was a soccer team of teenagers who were called Cobra, who had started committing crimes on the streets after a while. They were the very first Hmong gang that was created here in Minnesota, and then more and more kids at the ages between 10-14 years old started creating their own gangs to go against the other gangs to see who the best is.
The gang violence in the Hmong Community is very large and when it comes to giving tips to the police about a crime that has to do with the Hmong people and in that area, they are sometimes scared to speak because that gang knows that if someone was to snitch, they would know who it was that said something because the gang members knows that there is no one else that knows but those people, but people that isn’t Hmong could have seen that crime being committed and say something, but the gang will still go after that family, regardless. Hmong gangs are connected to crimes such as homicide, robbery/theft, rape and prostitution rings. These are the biggest crimes that Hmong gangs today act in as to get fame and be known as dangerous.
